- Inspiration for the Work: The idea behind the episode came from a conversation Trey Parker and Matt Stone had with Terry Gilliam where he revealed that the Monty Python crew once played with the idea of making a serious episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus without any comedy at all, just to see the audience's reactions.
- What Could Have Been: Originally, Kyle was supposed to die at the end of season five, but Trey Parker and Matt Stone changed their minds since they were getting tired of killing Kenny off in every episode and were running out of original ways by which to do so. Kenny was also intended to be Killed Off for Real for the remainder of the series, but Executive Meddling forced him back in at the end of season 6.
