Duncan made social media posts mocking and expressing frustration over negative reviews or criticisms of the series, in particular the first book Wicked Saints; in response to some readers stating they found the ending rushed and confusing, Duncan tweeted "Plenty of fantasy authors will hold your hand! I won't sorry!" and that readers should be "comfortable with things not always being explained in rote detail." Duncan also publicly complained about finding negative reviews unhelpful, despite it being pointed out that book reviews are written more for readers than the authors.
