• Saved from Development Hell: Risky's Revenge languished in Development Hell for almost a decade, with attempts at a Shantae sequel being developed for Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, and WiiWare. The first two fell through because WayForward couldn't find a publisher, while the latter was discontinued for unknown reasons. Finally, the existence of self-published downloadable titles saved the franchise when it was announced as an upcoming DSiWare title in September of 2009 and came out in October of the following year.
