• Banned in China: Due to its graphic content, the film has encountered censorship issues with certain countries' film boards.
  • In Australia, the OFLC banned both a cut and uncut version of the film upon its initial release. An appeal filed later in the year was denied. Ten years later, home video distributor Palace Video brought the cut version before the film board and it received an R18+ rating.
  • The film faced similar problems in the UK. Nearly ten minutes of footage had to be removed before the film could be passed (with an X rating) by the BBFC.
  • In Finland, the film was banned immediately in its entirety for passing off staged scenes as images of genuine human death.
