Write What You Know: The flies reacting to Ren's stench ("Hey-hey-hey-hey, we're tryin' to eat here!") was inspired by an experience John Kricfalusi and his crew had when they acted out some story idea in a restaurant.
Screwed by the Lawyers: Nickelodeon planned on reanimating the offending scene of Ren beating George Liquor with an oar to something less violent once John Kricfalusi was fired, but quit halfway through when they discovered that John K. still owned the rights to the George Liquor character, meaning they couldn't air it at all.
Write What You Know: As with all of his father characters, George Liquor was largely inspired by John Kricfalusi's own disciplinary father. The episode in particular is based on several of the writers' own experiences with fathers who would try to teach them discipline in ways that made no sense and were only ever abusive.
