• What Could Have Been:
  • According to Tommy Thompson, Moe's original fate in the original timeline was suicide after being institutionalized had pushed him past the Despair Event Horizon. This was deemed too dark for the tone of the episode, so upon Chris Ruppenthal's suggestion, this was rewritten so that Moe dies while trying to hop a train in an escape attempt.
  • One draft of the script had a Bittersweet Ending where Moe has a heart attack, but reconciles with Irene right before dying.
  • According to Richard Herd, there was some talk about creating a Spin-Off about Moe's life in Milwaukee with Irene, but ultimately nothing came of it.
• Write What You Know: Moe's upside-down chicken was inspired by an incident in Tommy Thompson's college years, where his roommate's girlfriend made a turkey the same way, and it turned out delicious.
• Written-In Infirmity: Scott Bakula had sustained an ankle injury just prior to filming, so this was written in as Sam injuring his ankle crawling out of the spaceship at the beginning and having a limp afterwards.
