  • California Doubling: While the baseball game in Chapter 5 takes place in Boston, the background image used in the chapter is a shot of Oracle Park in San Francisco, home of the Giants. The mistake can be put down to Pixelberry's tendency to reuse assets; the same photo was used in #LoveHacks, which did take place in San Francisco.
  • Distanced from Current Events: In the wake of both the Coronavirus pandemic and the Black Lives Matter protest, Book 2 was put on hiatus halfway through to accommodate for the storyline to be rewritten (and because of the unfortunate timing). It's hard not to see why, given that Chapters 10 and 11 involve a biological weapon attack which infects several people (including Casey), causing them to be put under quarantine, references to political corruption, and the near-death of Rafael, a person of color (especially since he's supposed to be a love interest).
  • Meaningful Release Date: All three books were released in February (Book 1 in 2019, Book 2 in 2020, and Book 3 in 2021). Fittingly, February is the month of Valentine's Day, and the series is called "Open Heart".
  • Release Date Change: Book 2 was originally slated to be released in late 2019, before being delayed to February 2020.
  • Series Hiatus: In Book 2, this happened twice. The first one started after Chapter 8, lasting from mid-April until near the end of May 2020, due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The second one started after Chapter 9 (just one chapter after the book came back from hiatus). This time, it was due to real life events that happened around the time the book returned from hiatus that caused the writers to rewrite the second half of the book (since they felt that the storyline they had planned would have been untimely in the wake of the recent events).
  • What Could Have Been: Rafael Aveiro was originally meant to die at the biological weapon attack in Book 2, Chapters 10 and 11, but public outcry over it due to Rafael's Out of Focus status and the Black Lives Matter movement caused the writers to rewrite the scene and have him live.
  • You All Look Familiar: Even by Choices standards, this series does a ton of portrait recycling, especially for patients.
