• Contractual Obligation Project: DW Griffith had to produce this and an adaptation of Of Mice and Men as part of a contract with Hal Roach.
• Creative Differences: DW Griffith was a producer, but had his name removed from the credits because he disagreed with Hal Roach on characterization.
• Friendship on the Set: Carole Landis and Jean Porter shared a dressing room during filming and became close friends.
• Never Work with Children or Animals: While working with loads of lizards, they had to turn heaters on to their highest setting, as reptiles don't move in cold weather.
• Production Posse: Lon Chaney Jr and Victor Mature had just made Of Mice and Men with Hal Roach as well.
• Real-Life Relative: After DW Griffith left, Hal Roach's son, with the same name, came on board to replace him.
• Romance on the Set: Carole Landis and Hal Roach Jr had a brief affair during filming.
• Screwed by the Lawyers: Lon Chaney Jr actually designed his own makeup for Akhoba, but couldn't use it because of Cosmetician's Union rules.
• Star-Making Role: Carole Landis had only been a featured extra and pin-up model beforehand. This made her a bombshell, nicknamed 'The Ping Girl' as a result.
