• Actor Allusion:
  • Dexter makes mention of the TV show Silent Witness. Ken Stott, who plays his father, starred in the show.
  • Anne Hathaway previously played a teacher called Emma in Bride Wars.
• Fake Brit: Anne Hathaway is American, playing the Yorkshire native Emma Morley. She was criticised heavily for her attempt at the accent. Patricia Clarkson, who plays Dexter's mother, fares a little better.
• Playing Against Type: Jim Sturgess commented on this, saying he'd never played a character so superficial before.
• What Could Have Been: Two versions exist of the sequence after Dexter and Emma first sleep together. In one, afterwards Dexter is helping Emma move. In the other, they go running through the streets where they bump into his parents, and he introduces her as his friend.
