• Troubled Production: The largest Polish production of all time when shooting began in 1976, it was halted by the vice-ministry of culture for two years due to its alleged 'subversiveness', before finally being reconstituted and completed after the fall of communism over a decade later.
  • Since production was interrupted for ten years, from 1977 to 1987, the final film was released in an "amputated" form, with voice-over narration and stock footage of then-contemporary Poland, covering missing scenes (which was thankfully only 20% of the overall film)
