  • Creator Killer: While the album was highly anticipated, the reviews were underwhelming, with many considering it a disappointing follow-up to Brothers in Arms. The lengthy supporting tour was also a miserable slog, with the band members' relationships with each other rapidly collapsing. Frontman Mark Knopfler, who had been arm-twisted into reforming Dire Straits and releasing the album by Vertigo Records, finally broke up the band for good after the tour was completed.
  • Feelies: One promotional CD single release of "The Bug" in France and Beneleux came packaged in a papercraft beetle. Likewise, the limited-edition mini CD release of "Heavy Fuel" came in a papercraft hamburger.
  • Multi-Disc Work: The original LP release managed to fit the entire album on one disc by packing the grooves on each side closer together at the cost of a higher noise floor. Because of this, vinyl reissues since 2014 split the album across two discs.
