• In the fandom, most of the writers and lead creative staff have pony OCs drawn by the fans (with varing consistency but generally converging to the same colors/pony type/cutie mark in time). Corey Powell, this episode's writer, is the only one constantly drawn as a dragon; after this episode aired and general fan acknowledgement was that it was a good Spike episode, a fan did a drawing of Corey as a dragon reflecting that only dragons can write good Spike episodes. The form stuck then and there.
• This is an episode about the Mane Six's pets. Prior to coming to the Friendship Is Magic writing team, Corey Powell previously wrote for Littlest Pet Shop (2012). Apparently, pets are her forte, especially since the first two episodes she wrote of both shows aired on the same day .
