Trivia / Mrs. Columbo

• The Danza: Kate Mulgrew as Kate Columbo.
• Disowned Adaptation: The creators of the original series disliked the concept from the start (since they felt the whole point of Columbo's wife was that the audience never got to meet her), took further umbrage at just about every decision made, and refused to involve themselves. Peter Falk also didn't have many kind things to say about it.
• Playing Against Type: Prior to joining the cast of Kate Loves a Mystery (the revamped Mrs. Columbo), Don Stroud primarily played bad guys in TV guest shots. Here, he played Kate's police contact and potential boyfriend, Mike Varick. This ushered in a new era for Stroud, who would go on to play cops on other series like Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer and The New Dragnet.
