Trivia / Miles Davis

  • What Could Have Been:
    • Davis wanted to collaborate with Jimi Hendrix, but he died before they could ever record together. Bitches Brew was inspired by Woodstock and was recorded the three days directly following the 1969 festival.
    • The album Tutu was originally going to be made in collaboration with Prince, but this role ultimately went to Marcus Miller. The closing track "Full Nelson" liberally borrows from Prince's late-80s playbook and really offers a glimpse as to what could've happened there.
    • On the subject of Prince, he and Miles would later collaborate for "Can I Play With U" for the former's album Sign o' the Times, but the song went unreleased until 2020, and some of the sessions they did later ended up on Davis' last studio album, Doo-Bop. Prince also tried to collaborate on Doo-Bop directly with Miles and producer Easy Mo Bee by offering the songs from the unreleased Madhouse album 24, but none of them made the album.
