• Out of Order: This episode was filmed in the summer of 1976 as a prequel to "Bunny" – wherein Nellie acquires Bunny, abuses it and fakes paralysis after the horse causes her to crash into a tree. However, due to an unexpected pre-emption of this episode, and "Bunny" already scheduled for its airing, "The Race" was rescheduled for October 11, 1976, one week after the airing of "Bunny." Some viewers certainly were confused that Nellie had already owned Bunny in the previous episode but this week was scheming to beat her and Laura in a race.
• You Look Familiar: Guest star Walter Brooke (Sandler) would return in season 9's "The Wild Boy, Part II", as Judge Simpson.
