  • Actor-Shared Background: Joanne Davidson it turns out is from Glasgow, Scotland like her actress Kelly Macdonald, thus she kept her native accent for the role.
  • Approval of God: The satirical webseries Led by Donkeys did a parody video where the team interrogate Boris Johnson over the 2021 "partygate" scandal. Jed Mercurio re-tweeted it with the words "Brilliant work".
  • Backed by the Pentagon: Zigzagged. Police forces in the UK officially did not want to help the production crew for unknown reasons. Serving and retired officers volunteered to contribute, on the condition that their names and affiliations were made anonymous. Jed Mercutio mentioned in interviews that the likely reason why they didn't want to help officially was due to themes of crimes involving active police officers, which is something of a stickler.
  • California Doubling: The show is set in an unspecified city in the Midlands, but from the second season onwards, it was filmed in Northern Ireland. This shows from time to time (e.g. in S 02 E 06, in which a passing train is very obviously marked "Translink NI Railways").
  • The Cast Show Off:
    • Craig Parkinson mentioned that the chilli beans made by Cottan in series 3 were his own cooking.
    • Georgia Trotman demonstrating her pool hustler skills in Season 2's opener is done all in one continuous shot — Jessica Raine potting three balls in three strokes, although the balls were set up to make it slightly easier and it took three takes. Still, only three takes!
  • Fake Brit:
    • Actor Martin Compston (who plays Steve Arnott) is from Greenock in Scotland and speaks with a Scottish accent in real life, whereas his character speaks with a London/South East English accent.
    • Similarly, Scottish Paul Higgins plays a character with an English RP accent.
  • Method Acting: Interviews with the production crew revealed that Martin Compston does his rehearsal before and after doing his lines fo the camera in his London accent so that he doesn't accidentally use his Scottish accent.
