- Hostility on the Set: According to Melville, he and Gian Maria Volonte did not get along at all during the making of the film. Volonte would admit later in life how good the film was, however.
- Posthumous Credit: Bourvil passed away on September 23, 1970. The film was released on October 20, 1970, along with Atlantic Wall on October 14 of that year.
- Playing Against Type: Bourvil, known mostly for being a comic actor, playing the hard-nosed Mattei.
- Production Posse: This was the second of three films Jean-Pierre Melville did with Alain Delon, and the second with Francois Perier - both of them were in Melville's Le Samouraï.
