  • Schedule Slip: The book began getting flack for this in its first year before Rucka & Lark decided to go with the "Saga model" and release an entire arc in consecutive months, then take a break so that Lark could get ahead on the art for the next arc. Toward the end of 2016, however, pretty much everything that could go wrong did. Rucka was late with several scripts, which in turn caused Lark to be late with the art and led to a five-month gap between the last two issues of the "Cull" arc (October 2016 to March 2017). In March 2017, the series went on hiatus so that Michael (who had worked on nothing but Lazarus since it debuted) could have some time off and avoid burnout. A six-issue miniseries of sidestories co-written by Rucka and featuring rotating artists ran from July to December of that year; the main title published two more issues in April-May 2018, before shifting to a quarterly format in March 2019. Then there was another hiccup with the Covid-19 pandemic hitting the comic supply chain, and a smaller one when the Texas-based Lark lost substantial time to the Winter 2020 power outages. By 2023, there seemed to be no defined schedule at all, with one issue released in 2021 and one in 2022, and none in 2023.
