Trivia / King Diamond

Go To

  • Acting for Two: King handles all the vocals and spoken parts.
    • There are some exceptions though. Both "Them" and Voodoo have a brief spoken part by an actual woman in their introduction tracks ("Out from the Asylum" and "Louisiana Darkness" respectively), Alyssa Biesenberger provided the voice of The Little One (spirit of original Abigail) on Abigail II: The Revenge and King's wife Livia Zita provided some additional vocals on the latest two albums (The Puppet Master and Give Me Your Soul... Please).
  • Creative Differences: The main reason Mercyful Fate split-up in 1985. While King Diamond wanted to continue in a similar style the band was playing, guitarist Hank Shermann (who at that time composed vast majority of the band's material) wanted to go into more AOR / Pop Metal territory. He then found the band Fate, though he left after two albums and returned back to classic heavy metal with Zoser Mez (which eventually also led to Mercyful Fate's reunion).
  • Creator Backlash: While he likes some of the songs off it, King Diamond has said that Time wasn't "very great" looking back on it. None of the songs from it have been played live on the reunion tours.
  • The Danza: Protagonist of "Them" and Conspiracy is named King Diamond. (Probably. He is only called by first name in songs, but a letter in Them booklet is signed "K.D.", and protagonist totally looks like King himself in Conspiracy comic). Also the case on The Puppet Master though it's not related to preceding. This can also apply to Protagonist in Give Me Your Soul...Please since it references King's own house and even features his pet cat as a character.
  • The Pete Best: For King Diamond's solo band, there's guitarist Floyd Konstantin. He didn't play on any record and practically within a few days he was replaced by Andy LaRocque.
    • For Mercyful Fate, there were guitarists Carsten van der Volsing and Benny Petersen (no relation to King Diamond, bassist Ole Beich (also a Pete Best for Guns N' Roses and L.A. Guns), and drummers Jan Musen and Ole Frausing (and for completeness "Old" Nick Smith, although he was actually a member of side-project Danger Zone, that featured four out of five members of classic Mercyful Fate line-up).
