Trivia / Kerbal Space Program 2

Go To

  • Ascended Fan Nickname: Kerbol, the Fan Nickname for the Kerbals' sun, is made canon in this game to distinguish it from other star systems.
  • Author's Saving Throw: Two in regards to celestial bodies:
    • Kerbin's second moon, Minmus, didn't make a lot of sense in the first game, being too close to the sun for its surface to be solid ice. In KSP2, it's been retconned into a glassy material that merely resembles ice, which is lampshaded in its Tracking Station description.
    • Dres, the game's Ceres analog, was widely considered generic and not worth visiting in the first game. Here, it's been given more interesting surface features and even some thin rings to make it more appealing as a mission target, as well as a unique black-and-white coloration similar to that of Iapetus.
  • Promoted Fanboy: Chris Adderley, AKA Nertea_01, who made many of the iconic mods for KSP 1 makes an appearance as a member of the dev team in the 5th video diary on KSP 2.
  • Troubled Production:
    • The game was announced in August 2019, and initially set to be released in 2020. However, multiple delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, feature creep, and a lot of reorganizations and shake-ups behind the scenes gradually pushed the release date for the Early Access version out to February 24, 2023.
    • Upon launch, the Early Access version was met with a mixed-to-negative reception, with many features that were available in Kerbal Space Program 1 missing, a plethora of game-breaking bugs and glitches, nerfs to engines and other parts, and FPS drops that make the game unplayable at times. Patches are being released to address some of these issues before full release, but the game still has a smaller playerbase than its predecessor.
