• California Doubling: The Chicago based series is filmed in Toronto, Canada.
• Disabled Character, Disabled Actor: Not Murphy, but Detective Dean's blind daughter is played by blind actress Calle Walton. According to the show's blind consultant, they had auditions with blind actors to play Murphy, but ultimately went with a sighted one because if they had used an actual guide dog, the acting process would have confused the dog completely.
• Money, Dear Boy: Brooke Markham took the role as Jess Damon, a veterinarian, purely for the paycheck, despite the show's mixed reviews.
• Produced by Cast Member: Perry Mattfeld, who plays Murphy, produced the series starting in Season 3.
• Queer Character, Queer Actor:
  • Vanessa, Jess' bisexual first girlfriend, was played by Humberly González, who's queer.
  • Sterling, a lesbian whom Jess dates after Vanessa, was played by Natalie Liconti, who's a lesbian and nonbinary.
