• What Could Have Been: Writer Donny Cates left the series unexpectedly after issue #10, as part of a wider hiatus from all of his Marvel work. The series was then cancelled with #14, at the end of an arc, ending much earlier than planned. Ottley wrote the last four issues of the arc based on his previous conversations with Cates.
• Word of God: In the lead-up to the start of his run, Cates stated that he and Al Ewing pitched their ideas for Hulk comics at the same time, and came to the agreement that Cates would write Venom while Ewing wrote Immortal Hulk and then they would swap. One side-effect of Cates' having scripted his run at the same time Ewing pitched his is that right from the get-go Cates' Hulk run disregards almost everything that took place in Immortal Hulk, with a few minor rewrites to account for it.
