- California Doubling: Averted. While the movie doesn't go out of its way to say where it's supposed to be set, it was filmed in and around Louisville, Kentucky, and has several prominent onscreen references to the fact (Fern Creek is an actual Louisville high school, plus Louisville addresses and online map locations, and the police department for Anchorage, a Louisville suburb—obviously not the one in Alaska—popping up a few times).
- Cast the Expert: Cody, the high school football star, is played by Markus Silbiger, who played football in high school and college.
- Dawson Casting:
- Abbie Gayle (Sierra) and Markus Silbiger (Cody) are both quite obviously in their 20s, playing high school students.
- Kim Director, in her 40s, as Andrea, who's supposed to be 38.
