  • Out of Order:
    • The films are adapted from books 1 (Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder), 12 (Plum Pudding Murder), 7 (Peach Cobbler Murder), 5 (Fudge Cupcake Murder), 2 (Strawberry Shortcake Murder), 11 (Cream Puff Murder), 10 (Carrot Cake Murder ), 4 (Lemon Meringue Pie Murder) and 13 (Apple Turnover Murder), respectively, resulting in characters not being introduced correctly and storylines changing.
    • A few of the novellas were also released out of order. "Candy For Christmas", for instance, is set between books 1 and 2, but was released nearly seven years later for a reissue of book 1. Likewise, "Candy Cane Murder" was released between books 9 and 10, but the earliest it can be set is after book 12 (which starts eleven to ten days before Christmas, while "Candy Cane Murder" is a lot closer to the holiday).
    • Christmas Cake Murder and Christmas Cupcake Murder were released as books 23 and 26, but each is set much earlier than the publication order.
  • Spinoff Cookbook: While every book contains bonus recipes for food items featured in that book (with Sugar Cookie Murder taking it to extremes by really being a novella accompanied by an entire cookbook's worth of recipes), the real trope example is Joanne Fluke's Lake Eden Cookbook, which features a new short story about Hannah, her friends and family at the annual holiday dinner, interspersed with recipes for everything (and then some) served there.
  • Written by Cast Member: One Bad Apple was written by Hannah's actress Allison Sweeney.
