  • Breakaway Pop Hit: "Til I Hear It From You", one of their biggest pop hits, was originally released on the soundtrack to the box office failure Empire Records; that film is fairly well-remembered today, but most people wouldn't recognize the song was initially made for that film.
  • Executive Meddling: The executives at A&M Records forcefully removed Doug Hopkins from the band even though the other members were hesitant to do so. They also withheld $15000 owed to him until he signed away his mechanical royalties to guitarist Scott Johnson and half of his publishing royalties.
  • The Pete Best: Guitarist Doug Hopkins was fired by the label after their second album was recorded because of his severe depression and alcoholism. When the band started to chart with songs that he wrote ("Hey Jealousy" and "Found Out about You"), coupled with the fact that the label withheld his royalties, Hopkins committed suicide.
    • The band had two rhythm guitarists (Richard Taylor and Steven Severson) and two drummers (Chris McCann and Dan Henzerling) leave in their early years.
  • Sequel Gap: Their fourth album Major Lodge Victory was released over 10 years after Congratulations I'm Sorry.
