Trivia / Fawlty Towers S2E4 "The Kipper and the Corpse"

Go To

  • Inspiration for the Work: In a 1999 interview, John Cleese said that he had asked the manager of The Savoy what the worst problem was for a hotelier. The manager said it was dealing with "the stiffs", i.e. guests that died. Cleese named the corpse "Mr. Leeman" in honor of the Savoy manager.
  • What Could Have Been: The original ending had Mr. Leeman's twin brother arriving, greatly upsetting Basil who thinks he's Leeman and has been pranking him. John Cleese realized that at some point the man would have to catch on that his brother was dead, which would ruin any comedy.
