  • Cut Song: Over 20 songs were recorded for the album, with almost half of them ultimately getting left off. Two of them, "Rat Patrol" and "Certain People I Could Name", were apparently shortlisted for the album but dropped before the final release. They ended up on Long Tall Weekend, as did "Counterfeit Faker", "They Got Lost", "Older" and "Reprehensible". "Unforgotten" became a B-Side, "Sensurround" wound up on the soundtrack for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie and then re-recorded as another B-Side, and "On the Drag" was later re-recorded and appeared on a few different compilations.
  • Invisible Advertising: Elektra Records had largely given up on them by this point, and did almost zero promotion of the album. "S-E-X-X-Y" was released to alt-rock radio as a single but only got a few courtesy spins. That said, the Johns didn't really go out of their way to hype it up either. They'd largely abandoned their Info Club newsletters, which had been used in the past to keep fans in the loop about recording sessions and release plans, and the first announcement that a new album was on the way was a post by Flansburgh on alt.music.tmbg in June of 1996. Its appearance in stores in October came as a genuine out-of-nowhere surprise to many fans.
