• The Other Marty: Don Ameche was originally cast as William L. Morgan, but when the film's start was delayed, he left the production and was replaced by Dean Jagger.
• What Could Have Been: Richard Brooks wanted either James Cagney or Montgomery Clift for the lead role, while William Holden lobbied for it. At one point, Christopher Plummer and Susan Hayward were considered to star. At one point, Pat Hingle was cast in the role, but had to pull out when he was injured following a fall down an elevator shaft.
