* SeriesHiatus: Trudeau put the strip on hiatus for nearly two years (from January 1983 to October 1984), making him the first major comic strip creator to do so, partly to work on the ''Doonesbury'' musical, and partly due to burnout. The strip didn't run at all, and many newspapers and readers turned to ''ComicStrip/BloomCounty'' as a substitute. It also paved the way for several other syndicated cartoonists ([[ComicStrip/TheFarSide Gary Larson]], [[ComicStrip/CalvinAndHobbes Bill Watterson]], and, very briefly after he turned 75, Creator/CharlesMSchulz) to take voluntary sabbaticals. Trudeau later took three months off in 1992 (but the strip just went into reruns).
