Trivia / Doomsday Clock

  • Disowned Adaptation: Dave Gibbons bluntly said in an interview that he refuses to read it, and claimed that it was his most polite response to the story's existence. He did clarify that he understood why people wanted it; he just didn't see the point. Alan Moore naturally stayed the course of not approving of any adaptations or continuations made of his work. (By comparison Gibbons was far more receptive to the HBO miniseries, which he participated in as a consultant.)
  • Dueling Works: With HBO's Watchmen as both feature very different outcomes to the events of the original Watchmen, yet similar conclusions (particularly in that both works involve Ozymandias getting his comeuppance for his scheme and Dr. Manhattan dying). The last issue of Doomsday Clock was released in December 2019, as were the last episodes of the TV show's first season.
  • In Memoriam: The book is dedicated to Watchmen editor Len Wein (who was also one of the writers involved in the Before Watchmen prequels), who passed away a month before the first issue.
  • Life Imitates Art: During the epilogue in Issue #12, a news broadcast mentions that the president of the DC universe—implied to be, if not the man himself, a stand-in for Donald Trump—is possibly going to be impeached. Said action actually happened in real life the exact same day the issue was released.
  • Schedule Slip: There was originally a skip month between Issues #4 and #5, but it ultimately changed to having the entire series being released every two months until further notice. According to Geoff Johns, it was either cut back to 20 pages or do this and they didn't want to destroy the narrative. Ironically, this is the same thing that happened to the original Watchmen, which also started as a monthly title before becoming bi-monthly. Even after that, the series experienced continuous delays, to the point that announcements of an issue actually releasing became more newsworthy than another extension. Case in point: Issue #12 came out on December 2019, exactly 1 year after the original December 2018 schedule.
