Trivia / Doctor Who S38E10 "The Timeless Children"

Go To

  • Acting in the Dark: The child actors who portrayed the Timeless Child were not told exactly whom they were playing and only found out when the episode was broadcast.
  • Creator Backlash: While Chris Chibnall's revision of the show's mythology drew comparisons to the "Cartmel Masterplan", Andrew Cartmel himself criticised the episode for "deplet[ing] the mystery" of the Doctor, and stated that the purpose of the Masterplan was merely to allude to a greater backstory for the character rather than explicitly confirming any details.
  • Prop Recycling: The extra meant to be Rassilon is wearing the same costume Donald Sumpter wore when playing Rassilon in "Hell Bent".
  • Recursive Adaptation: The idea of a villainous rogue Time Lord attempting to create a Time Lord/Cybermen hybrid race was the concept of the Doctor Who (Titan) Crisis Crossover Doctor Who: Supremacy of the Cybermen.
  • Spoiled by the Cast List: Deliberately played with — the character of "Fakout" played by "Barack Stemis" was part of the cast list before the last 2 episodes aired, an anagram of "Master Is Back". While his reappearance isn't too surprising given this series' arc, it did arguably help deflect from his arrival occurring last episode instead, as well as being a nice little callback to the original series' habit of disguising both the character and the actor in credit lists with anagrams and other wordplay.
  • What Could Have Been: Chris Chibnall considered various options to make it clear that this was the absolute, irreversible, final end of the Time Lords and Gallifrey, but decided against it after realizing that Russell T Davies had already tried this when he was showrunner, only for Steven Moffat to still find a way to bring them back.
