• Creator Couple: Thalira's handmaiden was played by Frances Pidgeon, the wife of director Lennie Mayne.
• Prop Recycling: As the stories were made close together, designer Barbara Kidd and others reused many of the props from the original Peladon story (including the Alpha Centauri and Aggedor costumes). The Ice Warrior costumes were also from the original 1960s episodes.
• What Could Have Been:
  • Brian Hayles originally wanted to do a straight sequel to "The Curse of Peladon", taking place a little later in the reign of King Peladon. In this version of the story, Ortron and Eckersley were working together to make Peladon independent, and thus reap riches from the demand of trisilicate. Thalira was now one of the king’s advisors; her plans to marry fell through following his affair with Jo Grant. Meanwhile, Sarah and Eckersley became romantically involved. However, Terrance Dicks thought his script was too complex, and so he paid Hayles while he ghostwrote the rest of the story.
  • The Ice Warriors were originally defeated by the Doctor informing the federation of their betrayal, which made them block and threaten to destroy the Ice Warriors’ planet.
