- Playing Against Type: Jeffrey Combs, who is best known for playing unhinged, murderous characters, is noticeably more subdued than usual, and is rather charming with his co-star Yvette Nipar. This role is probably the closest he ever came to playing the romantic leading man in a film.
- Pop-Culture Urban Legends: Contrary to popular belief, the film was never written to be an adaptation of Doctor Strange, it just takes a lot of inspiration from the comics. The director admitted as such in an interview when the film was riffed for Mystery Science Theater 3000.
- What Could Have Been: Aside from what's listed above, the main character's name was going to be Doctor Mortalis at one point, while Kabal's original name was going to be Hazaar. Also, Mordrid was going to have an egg-shaped sidekick who was a computer genius.
