Trivia / Death of the Venomverse

Go To

  • Executive Veto: Most of Cullen Bunn's ideas for the series—such as his perennial request to turn Andi Benton back into Mania, a Carnageverse spinoff, and having Carnage fight a Venomized Phoenix—were vetoed by Marvel's editorial.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Cullen Bunn revealed on Discord that he pitched turning Andi Benton back into Mania (again) but was vehemently vetoed by Marvel's editorial department; and also pitched spin-offs featuring Chaos Engine and Asgardia that were rejected.
    • The scene with Carnage and Cletus Kasady at the beginning of #1 was a set-up for a CARNAGEVERSE spinoff that Marvel editorial rejected.
    • Originally, the scene in #1 where Anne summons Agent Spider-Man, Agent Deadpool, and Agent Hawkeye to fight Carnage was going to have been longer and would have involved variants of Agent Venom from across the multiverse, but Marvel editorial vetoed this. The three Agents from Earth-1051—one of whom doesn't even appear in the "Venom Beyond" arc, but shares an appearance with Agent Mania—were thus last-minute additions left up to the artist.
    • Cullen Bunn originally pitched having Carnage go up against a Venomized Phoenix with a giant raptor made of living abyss, but Marvel's editorial made him use Knull from King in Black instead.
  • Word of Gay: When asked if he shipped Andi Benton with anyone in reference to Guinevere from Scream: Curse of Carnage, Cullen Bunn commented that he hadn't but that she and Asgardia would make a cute couple.
  • Word of God: After the series' conclusion, Cullen Bunn answered a handful of fan questions on his Discord channel:
    • When asked about the comic's rushed pacing, Bunn all-but outright stated that Marvel's editorial had strictly overseen the project regarding what to write, what characters he could use, and who could live or die; vetoing most of his ideas for plot developments, side characters, and spinoffs.
    • "Agent Hawkeye"—who is clearly intended to be Agent Mania from "Venom Beyond"—was due to Bunn and Gerardo Sandoval not having read Donny Cates' Venom run and just throwing characters in without adequate research, the scene having been a last-minute rush-job due to Executive Meddling.
    • Earth-1051's Dylan Brock being depicted as a child was an oversight by Gerardo Sandoval that editorial didn't bother to correct.
    • Asgardia's winged horse is the Venom symbiote itself.
    • Bunn originally stated on his Discord that all of the characters from Extreme Venomverse were killed by Carnage, though he later amended this on Twitter to say that fan-favorite Necroko survived.
    • Carnage didn't kill or absorb the Enigma Force at the end of #4, but he did absorb the Silver Surfer's Power Cosmic.
