Trivia / DEATH BATTLE! S02E23 - Solid Snake VS Sam Fisher

Go To

  • Back in Magfest 12 in 2014, Ben originally shot down the idea for Snake and Sam to appear in the show, claiming that it was too difficult to simulate an entertaining battle for them. Turns out they were just "joking" the whole time.
  • An article in 2014 actually gave a Death Battle-esque analysis of a battle between the two. The win went to Snake. Turns out to be the case.
  • This is one of the few matches where the characters' sidekicks played a role. Otacon and Anna Grim served as Mission Control for Snake and Fisher, respectively.
    • This is also the first time that a non-combatant character (aside from Eggman's or Wily's army, as their fight was MEANT as a way of measuring each other's armies) has scored a kill on-screen, as Otacon hacks and crashes the Paladin, killing Anna.
  • Notably, this Death Battle happened sooner than expected. While Snake's preview came a week after Beast vs Goliath as scheduled, another preview with the cast recording their lines was shown a few days afterwards, revealing that the fight itself will be shown the following Tuesday, Notably, Sam's preview went up on Monday, and the fight was uploaded almost 12 hours later before being taken down, only to be put back up about another 12 hours later.
  • There are several Screwattack related Easter Eggs throughout the fight:
    • One of Anna's monitors shows a scene from Metal Gear Ben.
    • The interior of the Paladin has a Jump'N'Shoot Attack arcade cabinet, and footage of the game can be seen while Sam is downloading the data at the beginning of the fight.
    • Footage from the Chuck Norris vs. Segata Sanshiro Death Battle can also be seen while the data is being downloaded, and a still from the fight is painted on the underside of Snake's cardboard box.
    • A Death Battle logo with various cuts of purple lightning can also be seen while the data is being downloaded.
  • A Turret from the Portal series can be seen behind Anna during various scenes.
  • Solid Snake is the last fighter seen in the SSBB video from Yoshi vs. Riptor to appear in Death Battle. And like the other three, he wins.
  • Solid Snake appears to know who Sam Fisher is. In the noncanon Ape Escape mission in Metal Gear Solid 3, Snake asks Campbell to hire another spec ops soldier named Sam so that Snake wouldn't have to be summoned while enjoying a vacation.
  • The Industry episode "DEATH BATTLE has Too Many Flips!" depicts a poorly animated remake of Snake vs Sam. As the episode's name suggests 3d Death Battles has a surprisingly high amount of frontflips and backflips done by the combatants, even the less skillful ones like Ironman.
