** Episode 21: Hotis, the second team's Rakshasa quarry, [[VillainExitStageLeft attempts to flee the battle via a 7th Level Plane Shift]]. Tiberius uses a 6th Level Counterspell to try and stop it, which requires a roll-off. He rolls a 19, and he needed a 17 or higher to succeed. If this roll had been lower, the second team would've failed their Slayer's Take contract, which might have left Vax, Tiberius and Keyleth branded as criminals for killing the Hydra, which could have had several repercussions for the story. (Would they be barred entry to Vasselheim? Would there be a CourtroomEpisode?) This also would've affected Kashaw's role as a guest in future episodes, as he wouldn't have been inducted into the Slayer's Take. ([[ForWantOfANail Which might mean he also wouldn't have]] [[spoiler:been present to revive Vex]] or [[spoiler:had a baby with Zahra.]])

** Episode 42, [[spoiler:Liam rolled a natural 20, allowing him to meet the DC he'd need to create a cipher for Avantika's diary. If he'd failed, the group wouldn't have been able to prove to the Plank King that Avantika was planning on conquering Darktow and the seas and they likely wouldn't have been able to avoid breaking Darktow's laws unscathed. However, his high roll also meant that, because he stayed up all night finishing the cipher, the book was on his person and not hidden elsewhere or in a divination-proof lead case, meaning the events of the following morning, and, consequently, the rest of the arc, would [[ForWantOfANail probably be very, very different.]]]]

* ExiledFromContinuity: Following his departure from the show, Creator/OrionAcaba has been treated as PersonaNonGrata by the remaining cast members and his character Tiberius Stormwind has been retconned from ''Critical Role'' lore. Pointedly, Orion isn't thanked in either of the campaign setting books whilst the rest of the cast and several guests are, and any mention of the original home game in media (Such as "The World of Critical Role") simply acts as if he was never part of the group.

* CreatorBacklash: If Matt has ever made one thing clear that he regrets about Campaign One, it was letting Vax keep his Boots of Haste when the group transferred from ''Pathfinder'' to ''Fifth Edition''. The reason wasn't because Liam abused it, but because it was such a gamebreaker on account of how the item was balanced for ''Pathfinder'' but not ''Fifth Edition'', that Vax became incredibly overpowered because of it.

** Many fans predicted from episode 1 that [[spoiler:Bertrand Bell would die so Travis could play a different character. Despite the speculation, fans were still genuinely sad to see him go when he died an UndignifiedDeath in Episode 3.]]
** As soon as Laudna revealed she was from Whitestone, fans started to speculate that she had some connection to the Briarwoods, two popular theories being she was either a necromantic experiment of Delilah’s, or Delilah and Sylas’s daughter. Episode 6 reveals that [[spoiler:she was killed shortly after the coup, and was resurrected by Delilah, who became her patron. After this reveal, some further speculated that Laudna was one of the bodies hung from the Sun Tree, which was confirmed in Episode 17.]]
** Quite a few fans speculated about Chetney as soon as he was introduced. [[spoiler:Namely, that Chetney was not actually a Rogue. Theories cited his unusual stat spread [[note]]Rogues are FragileSpeedsters, whereas Chetney's highest stat is in [[PintSizedPowerhouse Strength]][[/note]], his unorthodox equipment[[note]]Rogues don't have medium armor proficiency, and Chetney's Armor Class was far too high for anything short of a breastplate[[/note]], and Travis' penchant for being a TrollingCreator. Episode 11 revealed that Chetney is an [[OurWerewolvesAreDifferent Order of the Lycan Blood Hunter]], which had been foreshadowed by Chetney's interest in tracking down a werewolf named Gurge, his [[TheNoseKnows suspiciously accurate sense of smell]] and [[HunterOfMonsters knowledge of supernatural creatures]], and Travis' [[AuthorAppeal personal enthusiasm for werewolves]].]]
** After the story of what happened to Fresh Cut Grass' creator and fellow robots was revealed, fans immediately speculated that [[spoiler:he was secretly a KillerRobot that killed them himself. Episode 31 has Ashton speculate on this very thing after Letters snaps and attacks the party from getting too stressed out. Episode 32 confirms it with a firsthand account from Dancer]].

** Many fans guessed that the second campaign would take place in Wildemount, specifically within the Dwendalian Empire.
** It was also a popular guess that Beauregard would take the Way of the Cobalt Soul, as Marisha had mentioned that there was a reason Beauregard wore blue.
** Many Critters guessed that Nott would take the Arcane Trickster archetype, based on her high Intelligence and friendship with Caleb. There was {{Foreshadowing}} for this one, too, as one of her lines in Episode 1 was "Caleb's been teaching me a few tricks", hinting at either Arcane Trickster or the Magic Initiate feat being in Sam's plan.
** The fact that [[spoiler:Caleb had killed his parents]] was intuited by several fans after he touched the Dodecahedron.
** After [[spoiler:Mollymauk’s death]], a common theory was that [[spoiler:Taliesin’s new character would be a Grave domain Cleric.]].
** After seeing Lorenzo's Cone of Cold in Episode 26, many fans guessed that [[spoiler:he was an Oni.]] This was later proven correct.
** After Obann expressing familiarity with Yasha and the odd specifics of the spell he used to dominate Nott a lot of people successfully guessed that [[spoiler:he's a Cambion, along with being involved with whatever led to Yasha becoming a Fallen Aasimar.]] Both points were proven true in Episode 69.
** From the beginning of the campaign, a common theory was that Fjord would eventually multi-class into [[spoiler:Paladin]] - this was proven correct as of Episode 76.[[note]]Or rather, the video posted to Twitter after the episode to show everyone levelling up their characters, as Matt forgot to do so on the stream.[[/note]]
** Themes of chains and bondage have been with the campaign from the beginning, [[spoiler:leading some fans to speculate that the party would come into conflict with Tharizdun the Chained Oblivion.]] Episode 83 proves this correct.
** Caleb, Beau, Molly, and Nott all having mysterious women featuring prominently in their backstories led to many a theory about them all being connected. [[spoiler:Turns out, the woman who turned Nott into a goblin ''is'' the same woman who Beau's father made a deal with for prosperity, though the jury is still out on whether she's also connected to Caleb.]] She is not the woman in [[spoiler:Molly's]] backstory, who is later revealed to be [[spoiler:Vess De Rogna.]]
** Fans have been guessing since almost the beginning of the campaign that the Traveler [[spoiler:is really Artagan the archfey, and were proven right in Episode 94.]]
*** A bit before the reveal, [[https://twitter.com/caliebea/status/1220458058096300032 this]] fan comic portraying the Traveler as [[spoiler:having absolutely no idea what he's doing]] started gaining popularity. [[https://twitter.com/matthewmercer/status/1225700277350649856 Matt himself]] was surprised at just how accurate it was.
** Fans have began making [[RunningGag jokes]] about every character on the top table being in love with Jester before Beau admitted to having a crush on Jester and Liam confirmed on [[WordOfGod Talks Machina]] that Caleb is a "little in love with Jester".
** Since Viridian's first appearance, the chat had been speculating that she was [[spoiler:Keyleth's mother.]] This was proven true in Episode 102.
** A few Critters guessed that Caduceus was asexual before it was officially confirmed in Episode 114.

** Many critters correctly guessed that [[spoiler:Lord Briarwood was a vampire. Not as many guessed that Lady Briarwood ''wasn't'' - at least one chatroom user guessed she was a necromancer.]]
** A few Critters called the fact that [[spoiler:Cassandra de Rolo survived the Whitestone massacre, and some of them also predicted that she would betray Vox Machina. However, with the destruction of Orthax the shadow demon and the Briarwoods, she's come back to her senses and was forgiven.]]
** Observant fans figured out that [[spoiler:Percy planned to make Vex a Baroness]] the week before it happened in Episode 60. (Taliesin passes a note to Laura near the end of Episode 59, and when he's reading it later to Marisha, he mumbles the word "Baroness".)
** Taliesin, Marisha, and a handful of Critters realized that [[spoiler:Garmelie was more than he appeared to be]].

** Given that the Explorer's Guide to Wildemount gave the character's alignment as Neutral Evil and their actions kickstarting the war, Essek Thelyss was probably planned as a villain. Instead, the Nein befriended Essek, and gradually set him on the path to a HeelFaceTurn. The Campaign 2 Wrap-Up episode later confirmed that this is exactly what happened, with Essek's turn to goodness happening first out of curiosity, then genuine attachment.

** Matt revealed on Talks Machina that Lucien was always planned to be a recurring antagonist, but had [[spoiler:Mollymauk not died,]] he would have been trying to take his body back. Matt later elaborated this in the Campaign Wrap-Up: Lucien might have appeared before the Nein in several different bodies, [[ArcWelding all seeming like unrelated villains at first until late-game would reveal them to have been the same person all along]]. Due to [[spoiler: Molly's early death]] however, this plot-point was abandoned in favor of just having Lucien be a singular body, which makes the more sandbox nature of the story make more sense now.

*** If Lorenzo or any of the other Iron Shepherds had survived, it would have led to the Jagentoth crime family becoming enemies of the Nein.
*** The goblin who was accidentally incinerated in the giant's fortress had been living there for some time and witnessed Vence placing the abyssal anchor, and could have given the Nein a description of him. They ended up needing to discover this plot thread by other means.
*** If the Nein had succeeded in convincing Essek to work with Trent, he, Astrid and Eodwulf would have accompanied the Nein to Aeor, with Trent only agreeing to keep tabs on them, use them to study Aeor, and ambush them once they had [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness outlived their usefulness.]]
*** If Nott couldn't be restored to her true form, she may have [[TheMindIsAPlaythingOfTheBody become more and more goblin-like and eventually forgotten her family.]]
*** If Fjord had succeeded in his Intimidation checks on Uk'otoa, the EldritchAbomination wouldn't have been intimidated by Fjord, so much as thoroughly impressed by the sheer moxie it took to make demands of such a creature.
*** If a player character gains nine eyes, they gain Lucien's antimagic cone ability and become an NPC under Matt's control. Related, all the players besides Liam and Marisha had a plan to kill Caleb and Beau if they ever turned.

** Episode 138: [[spoiler:In Cognouza, Essek and Caleb use a mini-Beacon from Aeor to manipulate time and give the party an instantaneous long rest.
