• Hostility on the Set:
  • This was the fifth and final film made by Werner Herzog and Klaus Kinski together, when their volatile relationship finally exploded beyond repair. A widely circulated photo shows Kinski holding a machete to Herzog's neck, an expression of homicidal rage on his face, as crew members try to restrain him. It's the page image on the trope page.
  • Herzog was not the only target of Kinski's furious outbursts; the original cinematographer, Thomas Mauch, walked off the film after one verbally abusive tirade too many from Kinski.
