Mac's line, "The more people I meet, the more I think about getting a dog" is reminiscent of the Mark Twain quote, "The more I learn about people, the more I like my dog."
Following Stella's remark about Mac's tie, Gary Sinise, mouth full of hot dog, ad-libbed the line "I never wear a tie to a dog show," (which is consistent with Mac filling both her and Aiden in with details about how dogs shows operate; apparently he's been to them before). Melina Kanakaredes stayed in character, shrugged, and said, "Okay." The writers enjoyed it so much they left it in.
