Trivia / Board Game Arena

  • Early-Bird Release: Many games can be played before they're officially released on the site, being classified as alpha or beta. Beta games can be accessed by nearly anyone on the site, but alpha games are a bit more restricted (players need to have been on the site for a specific time frame, have played a certain number of games, and have a perfect karma rating). That said, the site has also made it clear (and reiterates when a sufficiently popular game gets added to the site) they want this to be thought of not as an "early access" mode but also as a way to find, report, and patch bugs.
    • A handful of games were also available on Board Game Arena before they were available in physical media (Kickstarter bonuses aside), among them Carnegie and Earth.
  • Meaningful Release Date: 7 Wonders constantly uses an Arc Number of 7, so it was only fitting it was released to the platform on July 7.
  • Newbie Boom: Had two big ones. The first was when the COVID-19 pandemic made gaming in person difficult and another. The second was in 2021, when purchased by Asmodee, which made a lot of well-known games available on the site and greatly increased how often new games were released.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers: Two games, Point Salad, and Koryo, were launched, then removed from the site, citing an "uncommon legal issue". Technically, the games are still playable, but only by people who have played the games previously.
