  • Production Posse: Aside from the cast who came back from the sequel and usual composer Danny Elfman, director Tim Burton reunites with actress Jenna Ortega and writers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar from the television series Wednesday.
  • Role-Ending Misdemeanor: Jeffrey Jones isn't among the returning cast members due to being arrested as a sex offender in the 2000s. As a result, his character Charles Deetz is depicted as having passed just prior to the film's events.
  • Role Reprise: Michael Keaton, Catherine O'Hara and Winona Ryder reprise their roles from the first film.
  • Saved from Development Hell: A sequel to Beetlejuice began development in 1990 under the title Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. It went through a series of writers, including Kevin Smith, but never made it past the script stage. In the 2010s, Seth Grahame-Smith was brought in to write a new script. After this, the project stalled again. Production did not officially begin until 2022 with a script by Wednesday show runners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (though Grahame-Smith does share story credit).
  • Sequel Gap: Coming out 36 years after the original.
  • What Could Have Been: The Hawaiian-set story was about the Deetz family moving to Hawaii, where Charles develops a resort. They soon discover that his company is building on the burial ground of an ancient Hawaiian sorcerer. The sorcerer comes back from the afterlife to cause trouble, and Betelgeuse becomes a hero by winning a surf contest with magic.
