The "bombing back to the Stone Age" phrase originated during the Vietnam War - and the United States has a tradition of bombing the crap out of a number of enemy states, to spare the lives of their own soldiers, as Refa argues in this episode. Thus, the "flattening" of Narn may call for some Real Life similiarities. And remember, this episode was filmed during the comparatively peaceful Nineties — the subtext only got stronger and more pointed as the new century rolled on.
