Trivia / Alma's Way

Go To

  • Actor-Shared Background: Every character shares their ethnicity with their voice actor. In particular, Summer Rose Castillo, who voices Alma, is also Puerto-Rican and is from the Bronx.
  • Backed by the Pentagon:
    • Fred Rogers Productions got permission from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to feature the Number 6 train running through Alma’s neighborhood.
    • Dr. Mary Louise Russell, a pediatric rehabilitation physician-turned-minister at Third Presbyterian, Shadyside, serves as medical adviser on the series, particularly in its portrayal of Alma’s cousin, Eddie, who has cerebral palsy (Pittsburgh doctors Jose Ramirez-Del Toro and Angela Garcia also consulted on the pilot episode). Ellen Doherty said the doctors wrote up a two-page medical chart for the character.
  • Children Voicing Children: The kid characters are all voiced by children.
  • Creator's Favorite Episode: Jorge Aguirre's favorite episode is "Junior's Lost Tooth"
  • Descended Creator: Sonia Manzano voices Granny Isa.
  • Dueling Shows: With Little Ellen, which also is a preschool show about the life of a girl in the city.
  • He Also Did: Jorge Aguirre, head writer, also worked on Goldie & Bear and Handy Manny.
  • Missing Episode: "Snow Day in the Bronx/Say I Guess to the Dress (Alma's Nighttime Dance Party)," has never officially aired in the United States for currently unknown reasons, despite appearing on select schedules and having aired internationally already and being available for distribution on the DMCP website.
  • Out of Order:
    • The first 13 episodes have mostly been aired in production order, but episode 5 was skipped. "Cardboard Club/Alma Clues In" is the sixth episode in production order, but the fifth to air. This is because Episode 5, "Alma's Nochebuena / Three Kings Day", is a Christmas Episode and PBS wanted to premiere it in December to coincide with the holiday.
    • In production order, episode 38 is a Halloween Episode. In order for it to be released on time, said episode aired eleven episodes earlier than intended.
    • Season 2 had the worst case of this. For instance, during the premiere week, the premiere was the seventh in production order, and the third one aired was the sixth in production order. The second batch for this season also did this, with the first episode in that batch being the eleventh in production order.
  • Short Run in Peru: The episodes "Snow Day in the Bronx/Alma's Nighttime Dance Party" and both parts of "Alma Goes to Puerto Rico" were both released on TVNZ early before they debuted on PBS Kids.
  • Write What You Know: Partially inspired by Manzano's childhood in the Bronx.
  • Write Who You Know: Eddie is based on a cousin of the same name that Sonia Manzano had, and also a kid from her childhood who had polio but loved to dance. Much like her cousin, Eddie is lightskin to promote skin tone diversity.
  • What Could Have Been: The show was originally to feature live-action segments with creator Sonia Manzano, who would act as the host of the show.
  • Working Title: The show was originally called "Alma's Mind".
