Derpy is therefore specifically characterized rather closely to that episode while still being a worthy companion to the Doctor. The two even playfully berate the pegasus warrior Sole Survivor on his presumed first impressions based on her "childlike enthusiasm and ocular disorder."
• Follow the Leader: While the two stories take their concepts and canon in very different directions, the author has gone on record that much of the way the Doctor Who elements are incorporated in this story (such as the term Time Charger), is inspired by The Three Whoves, the first Doctor Whooves fanfic he ever read.
