At Loguetown, Vice Admiral Garp oversees the execution of Gold Roger, infamously known as the "King of the Pirates". Before his death, Gold Roger tells everyone in the audience to take to the seas and find his treasure, resulting in a race for many people to find Gold Roger's greatest treasure, the "One Piece", and the start of a new historical age, the Great Pirate Era.

Belle-mere, a Marine, is dispatched in the Oykot Kingdom to engage a band of pirates but was separated from her unit wounded and starving leading her to discover a young Nami and Nojiko all alone together resulting in Belle-mere adopting them, retire as a Marine, and start a new life at Coco Village.
Yassop the Great abandons his son Usopp and his wife Banchina, leaving Syrup Village for an adventure at sea with the Red Hair Pirates led by Shanks.

At Windmill Village, a young Luffy, upset about Shanks denying him to join his crew, eats a devil fruit called the Gum-Gum fruit from one of Shank's treasure chests resulting in him gaining elasticity powers.

A young Sanji works as a chef at the Passenger Ship Orbit before the ship is attacked by the Cook Pirates led by Zeff. A quarrel ensues between Sanji and Zeff until the ship crashes into a tidal wave and the two are left stranded on an island as the only survivors.
70 days later, Sanji, threatens the Red Leg Pirate to give him some food believing to be hoarding some, only to discover that Zeff had given him all the food and ate his own leg leading Sanji to realize that the pirate was protecting him and find that they share the same dream of finding the All Blue. 85 days later, Sanji and Zeff are rescued and they start a new life for themselves eventually creating Baratie.

The Arlong Pirates conquers Coco Village resulting in the death of Nami and Nojiko's adopted mother Belle-mere. In order to free her hometown, Nami makes a deal with Arlong that she would work for the fishman captain as a navigator and cartographer in exchange that she'd buy back her village for 100 million berry.

After Yassop's abandonment, Usopp begins making false alarms of pirates invading Syrup Village while Banchina dies of natural causes, which leads to Usopp to have a job at Syrup Village's shipyard and develop a relationship with Kaya, the daughter of shipyard's owners.
At Shimotsuki Village, Zoro and Kuina make a promise to each other that one of them would become the World's Greatest Swordsman. After Kuina's death from an accident, Zoro inherits Kuina's sword, the Wado Ichimonji, eventually beginning his journey as a pirate hunter and to fight Dracule Mihawk to fulfill his promise.
Present day - Season 1
The Straw Hat Pirates are inadvertently formed after Luffy, Nami, & Zoro infiltrated a Marine base in Shells Town independently before working together to fight Captain Morgan and the Marines while stealing the Grand Line map.
Koby joins the Marines.
The Buggy Pirates become defunct after the Straw Hat Pirates kill all of them, incapacitate their leader Buggy, and liberate Orange Town from Buggy's tyranny.
The Straw Hat Pirates defeat the last remnants of the Black Cat Pirates led by Kuro.
The Straw Hat Pirates acquire a ship from Kaya's shipyard which they name it the Going Merry in honor of Kaya's lawyer, Merry, while Usopp joins the Straw Hat Pirates.
Mihawk obliterates all of the Krieg Pirates before being sent by Garp to capture Luffy.
Roronoa Zoro engages in a duel with Dracule Mihawk but ends up severely wounded while Mihawk lets Luffy and Zoro go upon discovering the pirate captain's dream and the pirate hunter's courage.
The Arlong Pirates attack Baratie to kill Luffy and steal the Grand Line Map.
Sanji joins the Straw Hat Pirates.
The Arlong Pirates become defunct after the Straw Hat Pirates launch a raid on Arlong Park against them liberating Coco Village from Arlong's tyranny.
A bounty of 30 million berry is placed on Luffy.
Buggy and Alvida form an alliance to hunt down Luffy.
