Timeline / Not As Simple As A Happy Ending

Go To

Work in Progress. UNMARKED (UNDERTALE AND NAS) SPOILERS ABOUND.

This is an attempt to pin exact numbers on the events of Not as Simple, and is not anything close to exact. All measurements are imprecise, but the most uncertain ones are marked * as such and explained.

Before Integrity

~2002*(* Chara fell in 201X. For the sake of ease, here they're marked as having fallen in 2015.)

  • Chara is born.

~2004

  • Asriel is born.

~2010

  • Bravery is born.

~2015

  • Chara falls, and is taken in by the Dreemurrs.
  • Chara dies. Asriel absorbs their soul and crosses the border, supposedly to bring them to their favorite flowers on the Surface. (Having played Undertale, we know this is really a plan to collect six human souls.) Asriel is attacked by humans and refuses to fight. He makes it back to the throne room and dies. Asgore declares war on humanity. Toriel does not condone this.

~2018

  • Bravery falls, and Toriel disappears to raise him in the Ruins.
  • A few months later, Bravery sneaks out to buy Toriel a birthday cake, and is found in Snowdin. Asgore kills him. Gaster is present. Gaster is horrified, but he’s young (“barely even close to being considered an adult”) and close to Asgore, and tells himself it’s for the good of Monsterkind and he’ll understand better when he’s older.

~2024

  • Kindness is born.

~2036*(* According to Gaster, just prior to Kindness.)

  • Gaster inherits the Royal Scientist position.

~2038

  • Kindness is captured because he stops fleeing to help a monster. When they bring him to Asgore, he appeals to Asgore’s sense of ethics; Asgore hesitates but kills him. Gaster is present and doesn’t know what to think.

~2085*(* Perseverance fell “some time” after Kindness.)

  • Perseverance is born.

~2098

  • After months of rumors, Gaster discovers Perseverance in his lab. She tells him she’s met him once before, in a prior timeline, and asks him to help her. She and Gaster study the timelines, and become very close.
  • A few months later, an old assistant becomes suspicious of Gaster and goes to Asgore. Asgore doesn’t believe him, but visits Gaster with a set of guards to provide reassurance. Asgore and the guards discover Perseverance eating lunch. Gaster tries to defend her, and absolute chaos breaks out. Someone accidentally starts a fire. Perseverance is fatally hurt and Asgore finishes her off. Gaster is devastated and completely hates Asgore. Strato Cumulus is present.

In the year of our Integrity

~2126(* Integrity fell “several decades” after Perseverance.)

  • Sans is born.
  • Integrity is born.

~2136

  • Integrity does most of the chores around her house. Punishments for imperfection are physical violence, confinement to closet, and denial of food. Integrity's grades worsen. She is punished more for this.
  • Sans and Papyrus wash up in Waterfall.

~2137

  • Integrity skips school most days to clean the house or steal food from local shops. She is failing her classes, and is always tired. When she does attend school she's made fun of.
  • Integrity takes shelter from the rain under the awning of a dance studio, and is invited inside. The teacher is impressed, and Integrity begins going every day.
  • Integrity begins attending school more often.
  • Integrity's dance teacher buys her a phone.

~2138

  • Integrity's father loses his job, and the abuse worsens.
  • Integrity is caught stealing food from a shop. When the police return her she's physically abused by both of her parents.
  • Integrity takes her anger out on a boy who tries to steal her ballet shoes. He begs her to stop; she keeps kicking him until she's dragged away by a teacher. She runs away and ends up at Mt. Ebott, where she attempts suicide but ends up in the Underground.
