"What are we going to do?"

The 2014 film

  • Uncle Pastuzo's Heroic BSoD when he sees his tree house, which he's been living in for over forty years, collapse and take everything he's made along with it. His expression is just heartbreaking.
  • Uncle Pastuzo's (ostensible) death. Paddington and Lucy frantically search for him until Paddington stops short and quietly pulls his hat out from under a tree, which is presumably all that remains of him. The real kicker comes in when they hug each other in sorrow.
  • Paddington leaving the Browns when it becomes clear nobody believes him about the fire, and having to sleep on a park bench in the rain. What makes it even more tear-jerking is the Brown's reaction to it. Mary is obviously distraught as she reads the apology letter he's left, and everyone else is completely silent. When Henry tells them that Paddington never belong there, everyone became shocked and disgusted with him that they didn't have much to say to him, even Mrs. Bird gives him "The Reason You Suck" Speech. The following exchange then occurs:
Judy: (after a pause) Well, should we go after him?
Henry: It's better this way. He didn't... really belong here.
Jonathan: (gets up from his chair, disgusted) How can you say that?!
(He leaves the room with Judy)
    Henry: Judy...
Judy: (equally disgusted) I'm going to my room.
Mary: (gets up and walks out) I just need to know he's okay.
Mrs. Bird: (after everyone has left) You just don't get it, do you? This family needed that wee bear every bit as much as he needed you. There. Said my piece.
    • Mary also deserves some mention: She had finally agreed with Henry that Paddington should be handed over to the authorities in order to protect their children (which Paddington overhears, leading to him running away). Once Paddington leaves, she realizes her big mistake and spends the next few days trying to find him, even talking to the police. And when Henry comes home one night, she simply and coldly says "Still no news..In case you're interested." before going back upstairs, effectively reminding him of his earlier refusal to go after Paddington.
    • Judy and Jonathan are shown to be miserable as well: Jonathan is shown sadly sitting in his room and Judy is sulking during class. Mrs. Bird was right on how the family needed Paddington..
  • Paddington politely tipping his hat to the Browns at the train station only for Mr. Brown to hustle his children on their way. He wonders if he's doing something wrong, since nobody will stop to say hello.
  • Though he tries to remain optimistic, Paddington is clearly let-down when the Browns explain to him that they're only taking him in for the night, not forever. He's also aware of how much Mr. Brown doesn't want to take him in.
  • While Paddington's debacles are funny to an extent, they're also a sign of how much he's struggling to settle in.
