** This is one of the few instances where "Bye son" is ''not played for laughs''. The early episodes will have Goku say this in a comedic manner. The way he says it here, it's definitely PlayedForDrama, as his tone to Gohan gives a [[SoProudOfYou proud, but heartfelt farewell]], as if it's the last time they'll see each other. And for Gohan, this is the only instance where he is ''not'' angry at his father dying, but at himself compared to Future Gohan, who kept a deep-seated hatred of him.

*** And then if you watch episode 60 part 2 and this back and forth, you'll notice something when Goku dies and his last words being "Bye son". In the future Timeline, Goku's second death caused Gohan to form a deep-seated resentment towards his father after his death, to the point that it's as if he doesn't care about him anymore. But main timeline Gohan? He blames ''himself'' for his father's death after apologizing to him, not knowing Gohan never liked fighting.

* Throughout the season, there's mention of the "great drought" that wiped out several Namekians in its wake, as well as mention of "Albino Namekians" that were slaughtered in the aftermath. Even though it's mostly PlayedForLaughs, the reveal as to what happened is just heartbreaking for the Namekians. Just as Guru is about to seemingly die peacefully like in canon, he reveals that the Albinos were framed for causing the drought by the the real culprit, Guru himself. The Namekians clearly felt guilty for what they did, and their reactions to their own leader having caused it made them realize they essentially slaughtered innocents that could have even been close friends of theirs at first. That being said, it makes their RoaringRampageOfRevenge on Guru all the more satisfying (and [[BlackComedy amusing]]).

*** And that makes the speech heartbreaking, too. As awesome and incredible it is, it becomes a tear jerker when you remember that he's telling off a ''traumatized child soldier who was put in an impossibly difficult situation, who then had his opponent took away any possible chance that child had by deliberately healing his opponent''. And 16's calling him a coward because he isn't able to handle it. ''A child.'' No wonder this is what it took for Gohan to finally lose it.

** Then it's Krillin's time to chew on Trunks when he told him he knew he was holding back. Screaming that his attempts at sparing Vegeta's feelings killed 18. Trunks ''finally'' understands why he broke the remote, as well (he previously expressed denial over the possibility that 18 isn't just a heartless killing machine who actually kissed Krillin out of actual affection).

* Though ultimately more PlayedForLaughs, there's something sobering about Nappa being KilledOffscreen, and of actual (mostly) natural causes, meaning that the show's BreakoutCharacter to the point of being SparedByTheAdaptation, is now permanently dead, unable to be revived by the Dragon Balls. Thankfully, he doesn't seem too bothered by it, and, albeit briefly, even enjoys his second afterlife being able to pester Ghost Vegeta.

Vegeta's final scream is no less heartrending, it's not a scream filled with his typical rage, but rather anguish, ''[[CastFromHitPoints pain]]'', and a hint of desperation from someone who fully knows that he's about to sacrifice himself. And just like in canon Vegeta does it fully knowing he's ''not'' going to heaven and has only an eternal afterlife of torment waiting for him. The twist of the knife is that this is what [=TotallyNotMark=] closes part one out with.
*** Also, that '''''scream''''' Vegeta yells as he dies, is a scream that not only has sadness in it, but is effectively the most painful scream that Lanipator, Vegeta's voice actor in ''Abridged'' has ever recorded for ''anything'' he has ever done for the series as a whole.
** While mostly played for comedy Videl's and Gohan's backstory has two tidbits: One Videl's mother died of cancer, something that she tries to avoid talking about, and two Gohan's tone when Videl mentions that everyone came back to life puts his situation in a new light. Regardless of being his choice or not, it ''stings'' knowing that you are literally the only person who lost someone dear to the monster you stopped and everyone else gets a happy ending.
