Tearjerker / Destiny's Divide

Go To

  • When Emerald runs into Cinder again during the evacuation of Atlas, and Emerald makes it clear that she's not going to help her kill Penny, all Cinder does is express annoyance at how she's going to need to find someone new to manipulate, making Emerald wonder how she'd been so blind to her true nature for so long.
  • Emerald expresses regret over having killed Penny the first time, which isn't helped by how she has to keep her company as she dies again.
  • Despite Blake's best efforts, thanks to Neo's attacks she's unable to protect the unconscious Ruby as they fall towards the Mata Nui island, as by the time she knocks Neo out there's no time for her to reach the free-falling Ruby before they impact.
  • Ruby lands in the ocean and nearly drowns, and for some time she's rather uneasy around the water afterward.
  • Neo's breakdown after Ruby explains the truth of Roman Torchwick's death, Cinder's manipulation of her, and of the meaninglessness of her revenge (it helps that Pohatu had trapped Neo in stone to ensure she couldn't move). At the end of it, even after she's freed, she doesn't immediately go after Ruby again and instead flees.
  • While Pyrrha manages to defeat the Makuta and Rahkshi sent after the Mask of Life, she's grievously wounded, and Axonn has Botar ferry her away, leaving Jovan to handle making up a story to explain to the Matoran what happened.
  • While most of "Brushing Up" if humor and fluff, Adam gets brought up, with Blake beating herself up for ever falling for him.
  • While Ruby comes to defend her and cheer her up, Weiss still spends most of "An Icy Reception" in a funk, with the surviving Schnees in general disliked by most of the other survivors and Henry Marigold personally blaming her for the fall of Atlas.
  • Part of why Kopaka tried so hard to push the other Toa away at first is because Nuju told him of the Kaita ahead of time, and he was afraid what they would think if they saw what he was like beneath his façade, so he tried to reject the others first to save himself the pain. When he tells the other Toa this in "Team Building", some of the others also look back at their early interactions with regret.
  • One scene in "A Cat Most Curious" has Willow lying awake in bed alone. Luckily Albus shows up.
  • Weiss has to deal with a Faunus couple sending their daughter to confront her at a restaurant. Luckily Yang intervenes.
  • Team RWBY and company need to split up, one group heading to Mata Nui to deal the Bohrok, one staying in Vacuo.
  • The Glatorians and Agori that crash on Remnant end up outside Vacuo, and since it's already hosting the citizens of Atlas, it's clear that there's some concern about how they might react to the new visitors.
  • Winter is not handling Weiss returning to Mata Nui well.
  • Takua is beating himself up for running and hiding during the Bohrok attack instead of staying by Penny.
  • The Summer Maiden turns out to be Theodore's daughter, and he's clearly worried sick about her status and the target it puts on her back.
  • Ruby left her Scoll on Remnant so that Penny could contact everyone there as needed, but that leaves her unable to channel the Kanohi powers like her other returning friends, and when Penny vanishes, she starts beating herself up again, worried that she'd gotten her friends stranded.
  • Octavia's tribe was wiped out by Shamblers. When Nebula is being strangled by one, she has a panic attack and can do nothing to help her.
  • Ruby feeling useless at Ga-Koro when Nokama makes her rest, as she still doesn't have the mask power app and there are no Bohrok to watch out for.
  • Oobleck and Marrow get to talking about Ironwood and how a good man devolved into a monster, the former outright saying that he mourns the man his friend was before he died.
  • Neo's Scroll, with the memories it has from her time with Roman, is destroyed during the attack on Po-Koro, and Hafu has to destroy his prized sculptures to fend off the Bohrok.
  • Despite everything that Jacques did, part of Weiss still misses and mourns him, and she doesn't know how to handle it because her teammates all have loving fathers, so she feels she can't confide with them on that matter. Even worse, it's made clear that she doesn't know that Ironwood murdered him.
  • Ren is not doing well, especially because he can't get a hang of his new powers as The Empath.
  • Whitley has similar conflicted feelings towards Jacques to his sister's, which are made worse than hers by the fact that while he knows intellectually that the man only pretended to love him, he still loved him relatively recently.
  • When Ruby, Nuparu, Onepu, and Taipu, get trapped in a cavern during the evacuation of Onu-Koro from the floodwaters, Ruby starts to spiral and blame herself again.
  • Despite her best efforts, Petra is unable to get her Aura or magic to work, driving her to frustration. Later, she admits to Emerald that besides her father and Toto, before the events of the story she basically had no one to be friends with or talk to.
