  • Whenever Jesus forgives somebody, especially if they feel they don't deserve it.
  • Jesus' first miracle, turning water into wine, is accompanied by his pained, conflicted expression, knowing he has taken his first step to the cross. He's clearly forcing a smile when he returns to the wedding.
Jesus: I am ready, Father [dips his hand in the pitcher of water, then withdraws his hand as it drips with red]
  • Jesus invites Nicodemus to follow Him, but in the Season 1 finale Nicodemus decides he can't leave his old life, wealth, and reputation behind and settles for merely anonymously donating some money to the ministry. Nicodemus is obviously wracked with guilt and unable to face Jesus, and Jesus (aware that Nicodemus is out-of-sight nearby) is sad that Nicodemus made the wrong choice. Viewers familiar with the Gospel of John can see it coming, but still, after a season building up Nicodemus as a good-intentioned and honestly faithful man, seeing him wimp out at the last second is heartbreaking.
    Jesus: You came so close.
  • In Season 2's "Matthew 4:24," after spending the final third of the episode arguing, the disciples are in stunned silence as a haggard and run-down Jesus walks into camp, uttering a weak "good night" before going to sleep.
  • Jesus saying goodbye to John the Baptizer. Those familiar with the Gospels know what's going to happen as soon John tells everyone that he's going to criticize King Herod's marriage. It's clear from Jesus' reaction that he knows he isn't going to see his cousin again, but John's mind is made up.
  • In Season 3, after Jesus returns to Nazareth and publicly claims the title of Son of Man, the townsfolk - including people Jesus knew since childhood, and some who witnessed His miracle at Cana - unsuccessfully attempt to execute Him by throwing Him off a cliff. After this, Jesus goes to Joseph's tomb and remembers being taught carpentry before leaving His hometown for the last time.
  • The social rejection Veronica faces due to her medical condition, especially when she gets publicly humiliated after delivering laundry to a customer, is heartbreaking to watch.
  • The revelation that Eden suffered a miscarriage while Simon was away on his preaching mission.
  • Ramah's death in the end of Episode 3 of Season 4. It's so sudden, there are reports of whole theaters just going dead silent in the moment. Made worse by Jesus saying "It is not her time" and refusing to heal her.
