Okabe reaches out to her and swore to be a mad scientist who will think of Mayuri as his hostage. It somehow actually works into improving Mayuri's mental health and overcoming her grief as Mayuri actually felt loved by someone and will never distant herself ever again. This after we have seen Okabe in despair after witnessing her death at the end of chapter 5 is heartbreaking denoting how she means to him.
